frequently asked questions
Q: I don’t wear much make-up. Can you make sure I won’t feel “too made up”?
A: At your trial we will talk with you about what kind of make-up you would normally wear, so that we can create a look for you that will be beautiful but comfortable. We also have products for women who don’t like to wear a lot of make-up their skin, such as tinted moisturizers and cream blush, which keep the skin feeling light and looking fresh. At your wedding, you will be dressed more formally than usual and you will be getting photographed tons- we are experts that know how to give you make-up and hair that suits those circumstances while making sure that you still feel like yourself.
Q: How do I know my hair and make-up will last throughout my wedding?
A: We use primers and special setting sprays that ensure your look all day. You also have the option of airbrush make-up which has a longer-lasting wear, and is the top choice by 95% of our clients! In regards to hair, we use a variety of tried and true products to ensure your hairstyle holds throughout the day.
Q: I’ve heard a lot of talk about airbrush make-up, but how is it different from traditional foundation?
A: In the humid climate of Hawaii traditional powder or liquid based make-up can settle and appear in pores and wrinkles and be visible on HD film. Conversely, as airbrush the make-up is sprayed on, it connects with the skin as millions of droplets of specially formulated foundation. The formula can create an even, sheer, natural appearance to the skin that, if applied properly for a natural look, can appear natural and non-heavy like traditional make-up. Airbrush make-up wears longer than traditional powder or liquid foundation, able to stay put upwards of 12–24 hours.
Q: I always wanted to have long hair for my wedding, but I cut my hair right before my fiancée proposed… Help! Is there anything I can do?
A: Yes, one reason that brides choose Leslie Fair over other competitors is our ability to be prepared for anything and our desire to go to great lengths to achieve the look our client desires. We truly are ARTISTS and we can custom create hair extensions for your wedding day. Think of us as your beauty concierge… no request is impossible!
Q: What brands of make-up do you use?
A: We are stocked with a range of our favorite beauty products. Each artist’s kit differs slightly, but you’ll recognize many of your favorite products in our make-up kits— MAC, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Make Up Forever and many, many more. We also have secret favorites that we will gladly turn you on to.
Q: What brands of hair products do you use?
A: Our artists have many of their favorite brands in their kits—such as Bumble and bumble, TIGI, Kérastase, and Moroccanoil. Sometimes even certain drugstore products make the cut!
Q: I want false lashes, do you have them or do I have to bring my own?
A: Each of us has a variety of false lash shapes and sizes in our kit to help complete your wedding day beauty look.
Q: I have allergies to certain products. What do you suggest?
A: You can feel free to bring in the products that you normally use at home and we can work with those to create a beautiful, professional look for your wedding day—safe from any allergic reactions.
Q: How long will my trial be, and how far before my wedding should I schedule it?
A: On your trial day, you should allow 1 hour and 15 minutes for hair styling and make-up. Normally it is best to do the trial about a month before if you are a local bride and anytime the week before if you are a destination bride. Destination brides often like to plan the trial on a day when they have an event in the afternoon so they can use the trial look as a styling session for a luncheon/dinner (after a bit of tweaking the look of course so your wedding day look is kept top secret!).
Q: Anything I should know about or bring to the trial?
A: Please come with dry hair. Also, if you are wearing a strapless wedding gown we suggest wearing a strapless top to the trial. Please bring any inspiration photos that will help us see the look you are trying to attain for your wedding day. A photo of the dress is always helpful, too. If you are wearing any jewelry, hairpins, or a veil, you may bring those. Pinterest pages rock!
Q: Can I try different looks at my trial?
A: First we have a chat and get to know you and the style of your wedding, your skin type and the wedding location. From the consultation process we move onto the actual trial where we would be working on one particular look.
Q: I have a huge family and bridal party, can you style everyone?
A: We offer special booking incentives for large parties. We will work with you on the wedding day to create any look you want for your bridal party. You are welcome to bring photos for us or let us do something original and beautiful that complements your bridal look. And if you have a big bridal party, don’t stress: we will bring along an additional stylist.
Q: I might want to do a style change for the reception; can you stay overtime on the wedding day?
A: On your wedding day if you want your artists to stay after you get into your dress, we are happy to arrange that. We do need advance notice, and hourly styling fees apply.
Q: How do you choose the artists for your team?
A: I choose artists that specialize in bridal hair and make-up who have experience working with weddings and love doing it. I have a rigorous 3 step interview process and from there the artist works with me regularly to build their skill and to have their techniques be in line with the standard of excellence Leslie Fair is known for.
Q: I need a haircut and color before my wedding. Can you also do that?
A: Absolutely! If we can’t fit you in we can always refer you to some of our favorite local hair stylists.
