6 Things Not to Do at a Wedding
t never ceases to amaze me what behaviors people think are OK at weddings…
Just for laughs check out the post below from Bridezilla.com. Yes, there really is a website called Bridezilla.com…
6 Things Not to Do at a Wedding
No matter how many articles are written on wedding etiquette, there will always be the drunk uncle. He’s a lost cause. For the rest of us, however, there are a few situations we can easily avoid to ensure weddings are pleasant experiences for all.
Below are 6 things not to do at a wedding. This is hardly an exhaustive list; if you have a question about the suitability of a comment or action, err on the side of DON’T DO IT.
Don’t drink too much
“Too much,” of course, is a matter of opinion, but if you’re crying vodka and the floor seems to be breathing, it may be time to switch to the 7UP.
Check out our post on wedding catastrophes, and in particular Sandra Bullock in “28 Days,” for further proof.
Don’t look better than the bride
Don’t show up in holey jeans and a tube top, either, but keep in mind whose day this is.
Don’t tell the groom you’ve always had a huge crush
This is part B of “Don’t drink too much” – I’m sure he’s very flattered, but there’s certainly a better time to confess your undying love. And by “better time,” I mean never.
Don’t laugh when the official asks “If anyone knows of any just cause…”
Sure, you know about that weekend in Tijuana (and the ensuing regimen of penicillin) but keep a lid on the cackling.
Don’t cite divorce statistics
We all know 1 out of 2 marriages end in divorce. Well, no one thinks they’re the 1s. And don’t ask about a prenup…
Don’t say any of the following:
- “Wow. I never thought I’d see you guys up there…”
- “So that’s the dress you went with—“
- “Didn’t someone tell the pastor not to wear cut-off shorts?”
- (Patting your pockets) “Did you give me the ring yet?”
- “Don’t worry. It only happened that one time. And we were drunk.”
- “And the blood test was NEGATIVE?”
- “Your hair? …Yeah. It’s… interesting.”
Oakley Sunglasses- Asian Fit!!
Let me start by saying that most of my best friends are Asian, and over half of Leslie Fair brides are Asian (or part/hapa)… that being said- I hear all the time about how sunglasses are so hard to find for my Asian friends. Finally a sunglasses brand wised up and created a better fitting quality option. Oakley now carries Asian Fit in certain styles! Yeah Oakley!!
Bridal Shower Afternoon Tea
On the island of O’ahu there are a couple of hotels I recommend for a fabulous Afternoon Tea Service. In particular I recommend The Moana, The Halekulani or The Veranda at the Kahala Hotel.
All three locations would be perfect for a timeless, beautiful and memorable bridal shower.
DIY Personalized Name Hangers
Love this! Of course you can get on Etsy, but these would be fun to make with the bridal party.DIY Name Hangers
No Sew Tutu for Flowergirls
Enjoy this video for a really cute idea for DIY flowergirl skirt. I love this paired with a simple white onesie and white patent leather shoes. Don’t forget a hair flower headband! No Sew Tutu
Wed-iquette
I couldn’t help the play on words… Anyhow, in my opinion Emily Post is the Queen of all things related to Etiquette. When planning a wedding there are so many questions in regards to “shoulds” and “should-nots”. I thought this would be a wonderful resource to share with you ladies. Click the link above to hear what Emily has to say about all your Wedding Etiquette questions.
Fresh Start for Skin
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION: DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER A DAY. ACTUAL DAILY INTAKE: 3 DIET SODAS, 2 CUPS COFFEE, NO WATER. NO SURPRISE THAT SKIN LOOKS LACKLUSTER AND DEPLETED … NO TIME TO EAT. NO TIME TO MOISTURIZE. COARSE, DULL COMPLEXION IS THE REWARD I GET FOR MY BAD HABITS … FULLY BOOKED CALENDAR FROM DAWN TO DUSK FOR NEXT MONTH. OUT OF CONTROL.
Ok, I did not write the hilarious stressful scenario above. The paragraph is listed on Skyn Iceland’s website for their Fresh Start Face Mask. I tried this mask and I love it. It’s a 2 part mask and it left my skin glowing just as much as it does after a facial. If you want to try it I suggest trying it out a couple of times the month before your wedding just to make sure that you don’t have any sensitivities.
My Favorite Moisturizer
This gem of a product is my favorite moisturizer. Seriously. Amazing. It sells for about $9 in most of the Hawaii drugstores, and I attribute the daily use of this oil to NO stretchmarks from my pregnancy. It comes in several fragrances, although I usually choose the Sandalwood or the Tiare (Tahitian Gardenia) so it doesn’t overpower my perfume. A bottle of this is a perfect thing to bring home to a friend or for yourself to remind you of all your lovely days spent in Hawai’i… we all know that scent is strongly tied to memory. Below is more information about the product from their website.
…”MONOI TIARE TAHITI is a French-Tahitian cosmetic oil consisting of pure coconut oil and the fragrance of tiare, the Tahitian Gardenia. The product is a refinement of an ancient Polynesian beauty secret and has been manufactured commercially since 1942. Centuries ago the people of Polynesia discovered that pure coconut oil is an essential secret for beautiful skin and hair. Coconut oil is a natural replacement for your body’s skin and hair oils. The coconut oil used in Monoi Tiare Tahiti is so highly refined that it is quickly absorbed by your skin. This Tahitian beauty secret is now available to you.
Please note that because of its tropically grown ingredients, Monoi oil solidifies at temperatures below 68 F (20 C). This is a natural process that occurs because genuine Monoi contains no emulsifiers to keep it in a liquid state. Simply place the container in warm water to return it to a golden liquid form. Solidifying and warming will not affect the original properties of Monoi. Do NOT use a microwave oven to warm Monoi!
Skin Moisturizer
For soft supple skin, use MONOI TIARE TAHITI as a moisturizer and bath oil. It massages quickly into the skin, smoothing away dryness and leaving behind only a delightful fragrance of island flowers.
Hair Conditioner
MONOI TIARE TAHITI may be used as a conditioner for dry hair. Pour a small amount into the palm of your hand and massage into the hair. Shampoo out after 10 or 15 minutes. The oil will enter the hair and replace the natural oils, giving your hair natural body and sheen.
Dark Tanning Oil
Pure coconut oil is the best product available for use as a dark tanning oil. Coconut oil actually increases the strength of the sun to speed the tanning process and enrich a dark body. Monoi has no sunscreen or other chemical additives, so apply frequently and avoid excessive exposure during peak sun hours. Once a basic tan is developed, Monoi oil will produce incredible results with the sun. Monoi is absorbed quickly by your skin so it does not feel oily or greasy. As an after sun moisturizer, Monoi protects against dryness and peeling. MONOI TIARE TAHITI is the original dark tanning blend.”
Best Self Tanner!
Being a make-up artist I don’t know how it took me so long to try this self tanner (maybe because I live in Hawai’i?!?), but it’s AMAZING!! I had heard many great things from clients, but hadn’t personally tried it for fear that I would end up looking like an Oompa-Loompa. Eek! Personally my taste is that if something is “false” i.e. lashes, extensions, hair color or tanner- it should still look believably real. If you have been hesitant to try a self tanner I recommend this. The product is best applied with the mitt which is sold separately for about $6. You can get both products on Amazon or at Sephora. This product is fantastic at getting a realistic bronze color, and would be helpful at blending tan lines, stretch marks or other skin blemishes. Try it out. At about $35, one bottle is the price of ONE self tanning session. What a deal! Not to mention it is much better for your skin then laying out in the sun.

Beautiful Bridal Veils and Accessories
A recent bride stopped by with the most perfect little veil. She said it was affordable and it looked just right on her. Accessorizing the hairstyle with a veil or hairpiece is like adding the finishing touches on your wedding day look. My client ordered the veil from a brand on Etsy.com called Fine and Fleurie. When I went to check out her Etsy storefront, she was said to be away on vacation, but if I were a bride I would definitely check back at her store. In the meantime enjoy a video clip from her store below:
